San Juan is the busiest cruise port in the Caribbean. On peak weeks, 5–7 ships can be in port at the same time, splitting between Pan American Pier and Piers 1, 3, and 4. This page is our running reference for the 2026 cruise port schedule.
How the San Juan cruise port schedule works
San Juan handles three types of cruise calls. Homeport sailings start and end in San Juan — these typically use Pan American Pier or Pier 3, and the ship sits in port all day for embarkation. Transit calls pass through San Juan for the day, usually 7 AM to 5 PM. Overnight stays let passengers experience evening San Juan, including bioluminescent bay tours.
Major ships calling at San Juan in 2026
The full list spans nine cruise lines and 22+ ships. We maintain a per-ship guide for each — see all ships calling at San Juan for the complete table with pier assignments, typical schedules, and links to ship-specific port guides.
Which pier will your ship use?
Pier assignments are not fixed. The Port of San Juan assigns piers based on ship size, day of week, and how many other ships are calling. Royal Caribbean’s largest ships almost always go to Pan American Pier (it’s the only one deep enough). Smaller ships and luxury lines like Regent and Crystal usually take Piers 1, 3, or 4 across from Old San Juan. Confirm with your cruise line 24–48 hours before arrival.
How to find current schedule data
The official Puerto Rico Ports Authority publishes a monthly schedule, but it’s not always traveler-friendly. Cruisetimetables.com and CruiseMapper offer free public views of which ships are in port on a given day. We also publish live updates on our Old San Juan Port Happenings page.
Why this matters for your port day
If 6 ships are in port on your day, expect crowded forts, longer waits at popular restaurants, and packed walking routes through the historic district. If you’re calling on a 1- or 2-ship day, you’ll have a much quieter experience. Knowing the schedule helps you decide whether to wake up early, stick to less-trafficked corners, or plan a quieter beach day instead.
